Open Source

Open Source is a new system of distributing software to

users by providing programs and the source code for free! Even

users can learn and make modifications to make software

according to their needs.

Richard M. Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation, an organization that

support Open Source, released a software license for Open Source

called GPL (GNU Public License). The license is currently the most

widely used to distribute Open Source software. In addition to the GPL,

there are many other software license developed by the Open Community

Source.

Here are the advantages of Open Source software:

The user side:

* Free

* Users can be involved in program development because it has

* Source code

* A good response from the user so that bugs can be found and

* Fixed more quickly.

Side of the developer:

* The entire community willing and able to help to make your software

* To be better

* No advertising costs and maintenance program

* As a means to introduce the concept of your

Linux is a good example. Many operating systems attempt

replicate the success story of Linux, but Linux remains the most successful up to

at this time. The positive aspects of Open Source is a widespread acceptance for

software which is really nice. But the gains were not enough,

especially for people who are working with a program

(Programmer), they need money to continue development

their software (and to eat of course).

ungkin some of the readers think, this is insane, if we handed out

our software for free, how can we survive? How do we

can make money? But wait, there are several ways that can be used

to make money from Open Source this economy. But it is important to

Note that only the software that is good that can survive and

make money, bad programs can not survive (unless you

forcing people to buy it!). Here are a few:

* Sell the program and source code and manual book in a box, the program

* Are free, if users want to download it themselves, but

* Users have to pay to get a commercial product.

* Selling additional programs that utilize high-level engineering courses

* Open Source you.

* Sell the technical support to help users use the product

* It.

* Selling services to customize the program according to user needs.

* Insert ads on the software.

* Looking for sponsorship from companies dealing with software

* Are made.
